Like every other college in your growing pile of brochures, we want you to know who we are. But at AIC we think it is much more important to understand who you are - and what you want. Do you want personal attention and incredible support from your professors? Do you want a school where creativity and flexibility rule - where how things could be is just as important as how things are? Do you want the kind of training that stresses internships and experience, makes employers take notice and makes any future possible? Do you want a college that has renowned programs in arts and sciences, business, criminal justice, education, health care and more? Do you want to live with, learn with (and learn from) students representing every corner of the country and every ethnic, cultural and economic slice of the American pie - not to mention 28 countries? Do you want a comfortable campus in a not-too-big, not-too-small city? Then you are in luck!
American International College is an accredited, four-year, coeducational, urban college in Springfield, Massachusetts; founded in 1885. AIC is top-quality, student-centered education, guided by experienced faculty (one for every 15 students) who are respected in their fields - and who are totally devoted, 24/7 to teaching. Our faculty includes a former executive producer of NBC Nightly News and a former prosecuting attorney for Hampden (Mass.) County. Each of the College's accounting department faculty members is a certified public accountant. Faculty from our nursing, occupational therapy and physical therapy departments continue as practitioners. Our education department faculty includes several who have been school superintendents, principals and classroom teachers. Our students benefit by learning from teachers who care about the success of each student and who enrich the quality of their teaching by bringing their professional experiences to the classroom.
Internships
American International College students are often at an advantage in their job search because of the experiences they have had in College-Sponsored internships. Experiential learning is valued at AIC. While many majors require some off-campus learning experience, all majors offer some type of an internship. Students have interned at such places as Disney World, Pitney Bowes, ESPN, Channel 22 (NBC affiliate), Yellowstone National Park, Hampden County District Attorney's Office, Morgan Stanley, Baystate Medical Center and hundreds of others.
The AIC Campus
The AIC campus combines the excitement and access of an urban campus with the privacy and beauty typically associated with a suburban campus. Our 26 buildings are situated on 60 acres. Among our most notable facilities is the 36,000-sq. ft. Health Science Complex, which includes state-of-the-art classrooms, a beautiful amphitheatre and several labs (including the only anatomical lab in Massachusetts, other than those at medical schools) the Karen Sprague Cultural Arts Center and the Esther B. Griswold Theatre for the Performing Arts; the James J. Shea, Jr. Memorial Library; and the Butova and Metcalf Gymnasiums. There are six residence halls, each wired for Internet, cable television and telephone access.
Affordable Excellence
AIC offers a quality education at an affordable price. A generous financial aid program allows us to offer over 80% of our student's financial aid with the average total package being around $14,000. Our institutional financial aid includes need-based grants, academic and merit scholarship and athletic scholarships in some sports.
