At Milwaukee School of Engineering, theory is brought to life and reinforced for students through extensive integration of laboratory experimentation. Understanding theoretical concepts and knowing how to apply them is key to the success of MSOE graduates. Established in 1903, MSOE provides a climate for students to become well-rounded, technologically experienced graduates, and highly productive professionals and leaders.
MSOE has a small university atmosphere within an exciting city environment. The 15-acre, user-friendly campus is located in a historic district downtown, just blocks from beautiful Lake Michigan. There are dozens of student activities, organizations, sororities and fraternities, and intramural sports. MSOE students can also participate in 20 intercollegiate sports from basketball to hockey. Called "The Genuine American City," Milwaukee boasts hundreds of parks and miles of bike trails, a vibrant fine arts and cultural community, major and minor league sports, a brisk live-music scene, and is famous for its more than 50 annual festivals. The city also is a business, technological and industrial center, where opportunities for internships and jobs abound.
MSOE offers a personalized education with an 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Classes are taught by professors with business and industry experience, not teaching assistants. The university has a four-year graduation guarantee for on-track students, and a post-graduation placement rate of 95 percent. Students gain invaluable experience through more than 600 laboratory hours, professional internships, international study programs, and work in the Applied Technology Center. MSOE's Technology Package provides all new students with a notebook (laptop) computer.
MSOE offers 17 applications-oriented undergraduate degrees in areas such as engineering, engineering technology, business, technical communication, construction management and nursing. Graduate degrees are offered in engineering, engineering management (accelerated option available), environmental engineering, medical informatics, perfusion and structural engineering.
The student body of 2,315 men and women comes from throughout the United States and numerous countries. Since its founding, the university has encouraged the enrollment of students of any race, color, creed or gender. Approximately half the full-time students live in three modern high-rise residence halls.
Qualified students are assisted by a comprehensive financial aid program. For 2005-2006 tuition is $23,955 per year plus $1,140 for the Technology Package (notebook computer, software, insurance, maintenance, Internet access and user services). The cost of room and board in the residence hall is approximately $5,892 per year. Books and supplies average $400 per quarter but may be somewhat higher the first quarter.
